Grow a garden filled with “Love in a Mist,” Persian Jewels, from freshly harvested Nigella damascena flower seeds. Persian Jewels will produce unusual looking blooms in a mixture of colors, such as pink, white, blue and red. Each flower opens up to a diameter of about 1 inch wide. The plants will grow to a mature height of roughly 12 to 18 inches tall, spreading a good 12 to 18 inches wide. The stems and leaves of Persian Jewels mixture appear fern like, displaying thin foliage like that of Cosmos flowers. Nigella will establish easily from flower seeds, attracting an array of beneficial insects to the garden, such as butterflies, bumblebees, honeybees and butterflies as well.
Grown as an annual flowering plant, Persian Jewels will grow quickly, bloom profusely throughout the summer months and later die with the first frost. The plants can regrow the following season by dropping its seeds to the bare ground beneath. You can also harvest the seeds at the end of the season to save for the next Spring. Do this by allowing the seed pods to develop, prior to picking.
Persian Jewels is a great addition to the flower garden and can be seen in flower beds, along borders, walkways, driveways and more. The plants are also popularly used as a cut flower in floral arrangements and bouquets as well. You can even allow the blooms and foliage to dry out for arts and crafts.

Nigella flower seeds are best established directly outdoors when the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed. Clear your sowing area of all unwanted plant life and weeds. Turn the dirt or lay don a new sowing medium. Scatter the black seeds to the surface of the soil not covering them with more than 1/16″ of topsoil. They will require a bit of direct lighting to properly germinate.
Growing Conditions
Nigella flowers will enjoy an area of full sunlight and enjoys temperatures of at least 68F to 70F. They are adaptive to many soil conditions, but just be sure to check the drainage of your sowing medium. To increase your drainage, we recommend adding a light compost to any areas that consist of hard, compact soil. Water the seeds daily with a mist setting so that the seeds receive an ample amount of moisture until germination has occurred.
